Slices of avocado are coated in breadcrumbs and baked to create avocado 'fries'. Simply delicious served with a spicy dip.

1 person made this

IngredientsServes: 12

  • Avocado fries
  • 1 avocado, sliced into 12 lengths
  • 125g plain flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, or as needed
  • Dip
  • 45g soured cream
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon tomatillo salsa
  • a splash Sriracha chilli-garlic sauce, or more to taste

MethodPrep:15min ›Cook:10min ›Ready in:25min

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. Pour flour into a shallow bowl. Pour egg in another shallow bowl. Pour breadcrumbs into a third bowl.
  3. Gently press the avocado slices into flour to coat and shake off any excess flour. Dip into beaten egg and press into breadcrumbs. Place breaded avocado slices onto a baking tray. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over breaded avocado slices.
  4. Bake avocado in the preheated oven until cheese is melted and 'fries' are golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  5. Stir soured cream, garlic powder, salsa and chilli sauce together in a bowl until thoroughly mixed.

LOVED THESE! I do have to say that you do not need 1 cup of flour or 1 cup of breadcrumbs. I used 1/3-1/2 cup of each and that was plenty. I used a mix of seasoned panko and regular seasoned breadcrumbs, which gave these an incredibly crunchy coating that I loved. As far as the sauce goes...2 Tbsps. of garlic powder to 3 Tbsps. of sour cream is too much, IMO, so I used the garlic powder to taste. Sprinkle the 'fries' with some salt, and you're good to go! A great, healthy alternative, that I will definitely be making again and again~YUM! Thanks for sharing.-17 Jan 2014

I just saw this recipe less than an hour ago, and decided I had to try them now. So I am eating them, and stopped just long enough to say, these are SO yummy good!! My husband is loving them too, so I'd better write fast. These are nice and crunchy outside, and very creamy inside. I had everything in the house except for grated Parmesan, but I did have some shredded. What I did was mix a handful of the shredded parm into the breadcrumbs. They came ot delicious. Will have these again Super Bowl Sunday for sure, and probably before that! Thank you for the recipe. I think the dip is very good as well. I made it exactly as written, but sprinkled with cayenne pepper to serve. Will make it again next time and also one of chunky red salsa and sour cream for different tastes. Really great snack!-17 Jan 2014

Avocado Fries with Spicy Roast Garlic Dip

After seeing a few of these Avocado Fries on Foodgawker, I just so happened to have an avocado in my fridge and knew I had to try this intriguing combination. So here is my take on these curiously delicious Avocado Fries!

Avocado Fries

  • 1 Avocado
  • 3/4 Cup Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 2-3 tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Canola Oil

I haven’t tried this recipe with any other type of Avocado, but I would recommend using one that isn’t quite ripe yet, and still stiff when squeezing it. Store it in your fridge before making these, this way you don’t have to worry about it being too soft when you bread and cook it.

Take two plates and a bowl, put your panko and flour on the plates and scramble an egg into your bowl. Shred some Parmesan cheese into your bowl of panko and add salt & pepper to taste (mix it around and get your finger wet, dip it in the panko and give it a taste until it gets to your liking). Slice your avocado into fry-like chunks, cover with flour, then egg and finally bread it with the panko and put it on a plate.. Repeat this until all your avocado is done.

While you are breading everything, get a pan ready on medium-high heat, with enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan. Once the pan is evenly heated, drop all your avocado fries in and cook each side until golden brown!

Spicy Roast Garlic Dip

  • 2 Cloves Roasted Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 3 Tbsp Sour Cream
  • Chili Paste
  • Lemon Juice (Optional)

In a small frying pan on low heat, add one tablespoon of butter and two cloves of chopped garlic, cooking until browned. Once the garlic is done, add it into a bowl with your sour cream and a few drops of chili paste (add as much or as little as you want, depending on your heat preference). Mix it all together with a spoon, mashing up the garlic as much as you can. Taste it once it is thoroughly mixed, if you feel it needs a little more zing, try adding a few drops of lemon juice.

And there you have it! A neat little appetizer/side/snack with the ever so versatile avocado. These were a very nice mix of flavour and textures with the creamy avocado and crunchy panko, along with the Spicy Roasted Garlic Dip to add a nice tangy and spicy punch if you need it!

Baked Avocado Fries are the perfect snack with a crunchy panko breadcrumb coating baked over avocado slices. Amazingly tasty and ready in 30 minutes!

When it comes to a delicious Side Dish or Appetizer it’s hard to beat amazing salty fries. Whether that’s Garlic Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, or these new delicious Avocado Fries they’re sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them and go with practically any main dish.

BAKED AVOCADO FRIES

If you love avocados, then Crispy Baked Avocado Fries are the next savory and versatile snack that you absolutely have to try! You can serve them up at any event, and all you need to make them are ripe avocados, eggs, salt, pepper, flour, and bread crumbs.

Plus as far as cook times go, this avocado fries recipe is done in minutes. Just slice up a ripe avocado, coat it in crispy panko breadcrumbs, and pop them in the oven. It couldn’t be easier, and we’ve also included how to make Crispy Avocado Fries in an air fryer so you can use whichever cooking method you prefer.

Crispy Baked Avocado Fries make the perfect appetizer to go along with any dish you’d typically serve fries with. Enjoy them on the side of a Homemade Hamburger or Sloppy Joes. The great thing about avocado recipes like this one is that they make a pretty healthy appetizer. You still get the satisfying, salty taste that you’d get with French Fries, but in this healthy recipe, you get all the vitamins and healthy fatty acids from the avocado. Along with that, Homemade Avocado Fries are cooked in the oven which is a lot better for you than actually frying them.

DIPPING SAUCES

These fries are served with our super popular Spicy Mayo Dipping Sauce, it takes only five minutes to make!

This Avocado Fries recipe will taste amazing with any of your favorite dipping sauce. Try dipping sauces like sriracha, Buffalo Sauce, or chipotle dipping sauce, or ranch sauce. You can also drizzle more lime juice across the fries when you’re ready to serve them to give them a little extra tang.

Avocado Fries with Remoulade Dipping Sauce

These fries really couldn’t be easier to make. I started by slicing up a ripe avocado. As I mentioned earlier, until this recipe came along, I had never purchased or cooked with avocado, so believe it or not, I had no idea how to tell a ripe one from a rotten one, and I didn’t even know how to properly cut it open. My fellow blogger buddies immediately jumped into action, giving me tips and tricks of the trade.

I cut my slices about 1/4 inch thick, which worked fine, but I think that the next time I make this recipe, I’ll make my slices a little bit thicker…maybe 1/2 inch, just so they stand up a little prettier after being fried.

Next, I coated the slices in a beaten egg, dredged them in seasoned flour, dipped them back into the egg, and then coated them with my breading. I used Panko bread crumbs for a nice crunch factor, and I mixed in a little Parmesan cheese, cayenne pepper, and salt.

After the avocado had taken a dip into the fryer for about 2 minutes (I used peanut oil heated to 375 degrees), the result was creamy, warm avocado fries covered with a spicy crunch.

Completely yummi on their own, but as you probably know, I like to kick things up a notch, so I made a spicy remoulade dipping sauce to serve with the fried avocado fries.

10 Eye-Popping Avocado Appetizers

Here are 10 of our very favorite appetizer recipes starring glorious avocados -- the non guacamole edition, that is. We love &aposem as quick snacks, as impressive party appetizers, and sometimes as simple healthy lunches.

Panko Avocado Fries

Our latest side dish recipe will have your taste buds swooning with every bite. Buttery avocado paired with crispy panko is rich and indulgent, but best of all, still healthy!

Two of the best foods ever . . . in our opinion at least!

Just when we think the two of them can’t get any better, we bring them together for an out-of-this-world experience.

If you think we are exaggerating, just imagine this – super creamy avocado with a crispy coating of panko bread crumbs, dipped in a luscious garlic and parsley yogurt dip.

Okay, so maybe these aren’t actual “fries” in their traditional sense. Just because we are indulging a bit, doesn’t mean that we can’t keep it healthy!

By baking these fries, we limit the amount of fat we use. Most of the fat comes from the avocados, and those are healthy, good-for-you fats, which helps reduce levels of cholesterol. (Raise your kitchen IQ with A Lesson on Fat.)

As for the dip, it only contains a small amount of mayonnaise, so you do not have to feel guilty eating these rich and indulgent fries. We know we don’t!

In fact, right now seems like a good time to make another batch!

Fab Recipe: Avocado Fries and Spicy Dip

The holidays are here so it’s time for potlucks, parties, and bonding time with family and friends! Since it’s always such a busy time of year, I love having simple and quick recipes, which give me more time to enjoy the festivities of the season.

As you may have read in my Golden Green Smoothie post, avocados have been a part of my life for a long time. With their luscious green color, they are perfect to use in a holiday snack recipe! The golden coating with the deep green of the avocado make it the perfect holiday snack. I like my food more on the spicy side, so I’m going to use red chili sauce (such as Sriracha or Fix Hot Sauce) for the dip to pair with the avocado fries. If you want a redder color to your dip, you can add more hot sauce. If you’ve got a feast to prepare, these little dippers can keep your guests occupied as an appetizer while you finish your masterpiece entree.

What to Dip Avocado Fries in

This recipe is so deliciously spiced, that they don’t need a dip at all. However, if you’re so inclined . . .

  • They would be tasty in Chipotle Aioli .
  • And of course, feel free to dip them in ketchup or Ranch dressing.
